Manatee County Has a Very Sad Secret…

Did you know that hundreds of children in Manatee County don’t eat on weekends? We don’t see them and don’t even know they are out there. They are our homeless children. There’s hundreds and hundreds of them right here in our very own community. We need to come together and feed our children.

Thanks to the Bradenton Elks, a program called F.E.L.T. has been put in place to help do just that… feed our children. F.E.L.T. stands for “Feeding Empty Little Tummies” and every Friday, Elk Lodge volunteers fill backpacks with nutritious foods to feed these children over the weekend.

According to county statistics:
1. School started with 900 homeless children.
2. That number grew to 1,352 by November 30th.
3. It is estimated that number will spiral to 1,700 or more by June, 2011.
These children get two good meals on school days, but go hungry on weekends. We need to feed this kids!

What Can We Do to Help?
SaraBay is doing what we can to join the efforts of the Bradenton Elks. Internally, we are buying food or making donations directly to F.E.L.T. We welcome you to drop off any food donations, which we will combine with ours. The Bradenton Elks will pick-up from our office, so there’s no need to make a special trip if dropping off at our office is more convenient.

What Items Do Our Children Need?
A typical weekend backpack includes the following:
1. Oatmeal/Cereal Packs
2. Pasta/Mac & Cheese Cups
3. Fruit Cups/Raisins
4. Beans with Franks
5. Peanut Butter Cups
6. Fruit Bars/Granola

8. Ramen Noodles
9. Peanuts/Almonds
10. Pudding Cups
11. Hot Chocolate
12. Soup Cups

Real Estate Apps for iPhone, iTouch and iPad

Most of us buy these powerful devices, not for entertainment purposes, but to access more information quickly and easily. We’ve become an age that depends on our mobile devices for various reasons… for business, social networking, area deals and yes, even real estate. In 2010, the number of people who sought local information from their smart phones grew by 51%, and the fastest growing method of gaining information is through downloaded Apps. If you’re an on-the-go house hunter, there are many Apps that can give you quick access to area listings. I’d like to touch on a few of these this week and hopefully give you tips and tricks to get the most out of your Apps.

I’d like to start with the Real Estate Book app… this great app gives users access to all of its listings — millions of homes for sale across the U.S. and around the world. The app is a FREE download from Apple’s iTunes store and offers the following:

  1. Search for home listings by city and state/province or zip code
  2. Map and receive directions to property listings from your current location
  3. View full property details and photos of home listings
  4. Save favorites and share them or create notes about properties; attach photos that can be viewed or emailed at a later time
  5. Email or call the Real Estate Agent directly from the listing
  6. View previous searches and perform advanced searches by bed/bath, price, MLS# or property type

The Real Estate Book has been helping real estate professionals connect with buyers and sellers for over 30 years. Available in print and online in over 400 markets across the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean, The Real Estate Book delivers credible, proven results to its advertisers who benefit from a wealth of experience and an integrated media platform that showcases their listings in a variety of ways. With 8 million magazines in print every 4 weeks, The Real Estate Book gets nearly 2 million unique visitors on its Web site, www.RealEstateBook.com, and features thousands of homes for sale, new home communities, and local information. (Stats from www.RealEstateBook.com)
